Your device (in this case a mobile phone) receives an image and loads it into memory. Using gyroscope input (for example) it tracks your hand movement and adjusts the image so that is appears to render in the same place regardless of how you move your hand (which is of course holding the device). So if after the image loaded, you moved your hand left or right the image would appear stationary and your display would continue to render the portion of the image you are currently over. Likewise, if you were to pull the screen towards or away from your face the image would appear to zoom in and out.
